Overview
England, early 18th century. The close relationship between Queen Anne and Sarah Churchill is threatened by the arrival of Sarah's cousin, Abigail Hill, resulting in a bitter rivalry between the two cousins to be the Queen's favourite.

This is a period drama that is different to all the others. It’s no Downton Abbey. The film portrays a period in history, during Queen Anne’s reign revealing rivalries both at court and in parliament. Although based loosely on historical events, the writer uses imagination to stretch the interpretation of the past record to extreme lengths in order to amuse and outrage. We get a view of what life may have been like ‘downstairs’ far from the cosy claustrophobia of ‘Upstairs, downstairs’ and the like.
Another feature of this production is the leading role of the women, they are centre stage and indeed the men are shown in a very passive light.
Some viewers may be shocked or even outraged at the liberties taken with the story, but leave that aside and you will enjoy the performances and creativity of the production
